British India Pale Ale
ABV 5.5% IBU 55.5
MI5, or Military Intelligence Section 5, is the United Kingdom's domestic counter-intelligence and security agency and was the inspiration for this, our most complex mathematical beer. It is focused all around the number 5 based on the original 5 gallon recipe. We start off the malt bill by combining 50% & 5lbs American and 50% & 5lbs of British Malts paired with .5lbs of Caramel 50L and .5lbs of Aromatic. Our intense hop bill uses 5 different hops each at 1/5 of the boil time for 50 minutes contributing to its calculated IBU of 55.5. We then topped it all off by using Safale 05 Ale yeast. A 1055 (OG) original gravity it still leaves the ABV percentage in a range that all IPA lovers can enjoy and appreciate several pints.
The MI5 logo screams symbols. Our tap label derives from their official logo in the shape of a pyramid with the “all seeing” eye featured at the top – plenty of conspiracy theories tie these symbols to the Knights Templar and the Freemasons!
Tasting Notes: This India Pale Ale has very pleasant and toasty malt notes with the five hop additions giving it an agreeable British IPA flavor that lingers for 5.5 minutes after the last drop.
